Hard and soft in balance
What is Goju-Ryu?
Goju-Ryu is a traditional Okinawan and Japanese karate system whose name means “hard-soft style.” It develops the judgment to use firmness or yielding movement at the right moment—and the discipline to unite body, breath, and mind.
A complete method of training
Goju-Ryu is not simply a collection of techniques. It develops the body and mind through disciplined repetition, partner study, breathing, conditioning, kata, bunkai, and kumite.
Kihon
Fundamental posture, movement, strikes, blocks, kicks, and body mechanics.
Kata and bunkai
Forms preserve technical principles; bunkai studies how those movements function with a partner.
Kumite
Partner practice develops timing, distance, composure, control, and strategic awareness.
Our lineage and affiliations
Tri-Valley Karate is affiliated with Seiwakai and the Japan Karatedo Federation Goju-Kai. Head instructor Sanjit Mandal continues to train with senior instructors in the United States, Japan, and Okinawa so students receive karate connected to an active international technical tradition.
